The motto of an experienced camper is “Be Prepared”. This motto rings true, especially if you are going to camp in an area where the temperatures can become cold. Bringing the appropriate camping gear can be a balancing act; you don’t want to bring too much camping gear as it will weigh you down. On the other hand, you don’t want to not have enough camping gear and be stuck freezing in the dead of night. Following is camping gear that you should wear to ensure that you will be prepared and have an enjoyable camping experience.
The appropriate clothing is critical to your comfort during your camping trip. Dress in layers. Wearing layers of clothing enables you to have the luxury of removing layers when the weather is warm and piling on the layers when the weather is cold. Without layers, you may find yourself sweating profusely in the heat or shivering in the cold.
Wind is usually a factor when you are out in the wilderness. Therefore, it is recommended to bring a wind breaker jacket. Most camping stores will provide a wide variety of wind breaker jackets that are also water proof and provide ample amount of pockets for storage. Synthetic materials also fight against the winter elements. Synthetic materials ward off cold and also dry up any moisture you may release if you sweat. Try several jackets on until you find one that is not only comfortable, but seals off any drafts to the outside air.
Sturdy hiking boots that are waterproof is a must. Experienced campers wear sock liners in addition to wool socks. Your feet may retain moisture which can dampen your camping experience. Sock liners will help keep your feet comfortably dry. Don’t forget to bring extra pairs of socks!
Make sure to cover your face and head with a hat and scarf. Most of your body heat is lost through you head. Plus, a hat and scarf can shield you from the harmful and tiring effects of the sun and wind. Wear thick gloves, water proof gloves that provide thorough insulation for your hands.
Let’s talk about your sleeping bag. Finding the right sleeping bag is critical because it is the camping “clothing” you will be wearing when you are resting. Therefore, don’t use the sleeping bag that has been hiding in your attic or basement. You need a sleeping bag that is specifically designed for camping. The sleeping bag should have adjustable straps so you can fit it snuggly around your body. Many sleeping bags have a liner which gives you added protection against the wind and cold.
When you are ready to use your sleeping bag, keep the following things in mind. First, wear your hat to bed. Don’t lose heat through your noggin! Second, don’t wear the same socks you have worn all day to bed. They are no doubt stinky and may be wet. Put on a fresh, dry pair of socks. Third, you can add extra insulation and comfort to your sleeping bag by placing a down comforter inside of it. Wrap yourself thoroughly in the comforter and sleeping bag. Tie up any loose ends or drafty areas to prevent unwanted cold and moisture from seeping into your sleeping bag. Follow these tips and you will have a restful sleep.
There you have it, the basic clothing you will need for your camping trip. Do keep in mind that you should take into account where you are going camping and what time of year. Your clothing choices will vary widely if you are just going to the local campground versus heading out to the uncharted trails of a mountain. Either way, “Be Prepared”!

It is well known that there is a tight connection between the mother and the child, sensations are transmitted between the two, and if you want your baby to feel comfortable, you must perfect a few aspects with regard to the proper clothes. What you like, he / she likes too; consequently, it is advisable to dress the baby just as you dress yourself. But be careful, when your baby does not move yet, he / she gets cold easier. For this reason, it would be best for you to be equipped as well as possible, even in summer, and always try to have an additional article of clothing with you in case the sun hides behind the clouds…
During the day:
If you cannot stand long sleeves, especially when it is hot, the baby cannot stand them either! But in case weather conditions are unstable it is better to have a supplementary protection waistcoat with you.
As a rule, the clothes which come in direct contact with the skin should be cotton made. In this case, avoid body articles with caps and use body undershirts which stop below the waist and allow air to circulate. Also, it is better not to dress the baby in dark clothes because they preserve heat. The child’s head should be always covered, especially when sun is powerful. If light is intense it is indicated for the baby to wear a pair of sunglasses of the best quality. The T-shirt is indispensable in order to protect the baby from air currents when the baby’s skin is perspired, but during summer you can seize the opportunity and leave the baby with the bottom and legs naked.
For sleeping:
When there are around 24 degrees outside, do not let the baby sleep in the “sleeping bag” anymore and dress him / her in pyjamas. When there is over 27 degrees, you can dress the baby in a body, he / she won’t catch a cold!

Spring is in the air, and summer is just around the corner. It is time to update your wardrobe, and get some clothing that say spring. We have put together five must have spring and spring into summer clothing:
- Fun t-shirts. Nothing says spring and summer like fun, bright t-shirts. Pink and red t-shirts, with interesting sayings, flowers and embroidery say spring like nothing else. Get those fun t-shirts and start wearing them to get the spring to come sooner.
- A Spring Jacket. Everyone should have a cool spring jacket to wear. A jeans jacket is good and timeless. You can also get a fun corduroy jacket, or even a blazer.
Get something that is fun to wear and versatile at the same time. You may want to get a jacket that you can wear with jeans and with a fun summer dress.
- Fun Skirts. Springtime is not springtime, until you see everyone wearing colorful spring skirts. There are so many styles and so many colors that the fun spring skirts come in. We love fun skirts in many different colors, so pick the colors that work best for you and get yourself one or three skirts.
- Dresses. Just like with skirts, lots of women love wearing dresses in the spring and summer. Do you have a few dresses already? They are fun to wear, and are great for those warmer seasons.
- Lighter Pants, Capri and Shorts. We love jeans, we really really do. However, sometimes it is just too hot to wear jeans. And if it is, you have a few different options.
If you must wear pants, there are lighter pants, made from lighter materials than denim. You will not be as hot wearing them.
Capri, or shorter pants, became extremely popular a few years ago. They come in many different colors and lengths, and they are made from different materials. Pick up a few pairs of capris, they will become staples in your spring and summer wardrobe.
And, if you like shorts, they are also great to wear in the summer.
- Tank Tops. Looking into the summer, a few tank tops should always be in your closet. They are very versatile – you can wear them with other tops, under shirts, under jackets, with dresses, etc.
What fun clothes will you wear this summer?

If it was cool when you were a kid, it’s cool for your kids!
Baby clothing is quite a bit different today than it was when you were an infant. From the designer styles of Baby Dior and Baby Phat to the bizarre offerings of the alternative baby clothing market, there’s now something for every parent to adorn her children with in an effort to transfer a bit of her own personality onto her offspring. One of the latest trends in baby fashions is the “retro” look in baby wear.
Retro baby clothing indicates baby sized tees and “Onesies” that have been printed or screened with images of pop culture past. In many cases the pictures are of icons from before even the parents’ time, making it cool to be the most obscure. Interested parties are not likely to find these offerings at the local Wal-Mart but will instead have to order them online. Fortunately for those interested in giving their children a little piece of the past to wear on their chests, there is no shortage of those sites available.
The most complete and probably best known of these sites is The Retro Baby. Perusing the offerings of the site is like a walk down memory lane for anyone who is in their thirties or has a keen fix on the pop-culture of the 1980s. Designs available here include television references like The A Team, ALF, CHiPs, and Dallas (the Dallas print will be instantly familiar to anyone who remembers the summer that America was wondering who shot J.R.) as well as older images from shows that the parents of today watched in reruns while growing up: Barbara Eden in her silky outfit from I Dream of Jeanie and Clayton Moore in his blue Texas Ranger outfit complete with black mask from The Lone Ranger. Prices for these printed “Onesies” are a bit steep at $14.95 ($16.95 for toddler-sized tees) considering the baby will grow out of them completely in a few months’ time, but even the most stoic of thirty-somethings will have to admit that they are getting a certain dose of cool for their cash.
Retro doesn’t just mean pop culture references, however. Several clothiers are offering styles that are a clear throwback to those worn by kids in the fifties, sixties, and seventies. One such company, Cakewalk Baby, offers flower print designs reminiscent of the post-hippie era of the late seventies; a time when PC meant petty cash, Elvis Presley was still with us, and no one knew what a video game or MTV was. A website called Milena Bee offers these designs and more and is definitely worth a look.
Whether you want to put stills of Bruce Lee from Enter the Dragon or flowery designs from an era gone by on your baby’s body, retro baby clothes may be just what you need to show the world that your baby is cooler than cool. Look hard enough and you may be able to find a tee shirt that says “I’m the Fonz” or “Frankie Say Relax.”

While the concept of “baby tees” has taken on a whole new meaning in the new millennium, some companies have made a real dedication to the original intent of the phrase. Of course there is always the basic “I Love My Mommy” and “Someone in Tallahassee Loves Me” t-shirts, but in keeping with the times, some companies have designed some shirts that really let baby and parent’s personality shine through.
Take, for example, Wry Baby, a company that specializes in humorous baby t-shirts. Some of my favorites include “I’M NOT A BOY,” “NEW,” “SCENTED,” and a special twin set that reads, “STOP COPYING ME.” There are also onesies that come complete with baby care directions for everything from feeding to carrying.
For the breast feeding baby, there are shirts made in the style of the “I Love New York” shirts that read, ‘I Love Big Boobies.” A shirt that reads “Blankie, Boopie, or Bottle, Nobody Rides for Free” and features a picture of a tricycle is a nice take-off on a popular bumper sticker that’s a little bit more PG rated than it’s predecessor.
At Baby Wit, online shoppers can find a wide range of baby and toddler t-shirts. Whether your baby wants to make a political statement, hang out with the cool kids, or just have a cute monkey on his or her shirt, there is something for them here. Here you can find some more controversial t-shirt sayings, like “He Thinks He’s My Daddy” or “My Mommy Drinks Because I Cry.” There are also some amusing, but more tame shirts for the family set. Shirts like, “Come Closer So I Can Spit on You” and “Been Inside for Nine Months” (in prison suit font) make this site a well-rounded source of baby novelty bliss.
For the most creative parents, there are sites that feature personalized t-shirts for babies. It is also pretty easy to pick up the paint and stencils necessary to create a super-personal look for your newborn fashion plate. So if you think you can come up with something better than “Look, Maybe Someday I’ll Be Changing Your Diapers” than get thee to a craft store.
If you’re politically minded, mypunkbaby.com, a company based out of Massachusetts, donates five percent of all proceeds to a different charity each month. All shoppers are given a ballot at the end of their checkout to decide which of the highlighted charities will receive the five percent donation for the month. This way, your money is not only helping a good cause, it’s helping a good cause that you get a say in deciding.
You can, of course, go with the method of using your baby’s clothing as a way to instill the values that you hold nearest and dearest to you, like moral fiber, ethics, and rock and roll. Recently, at a baby shower for a friend who had recently graduated from college, the new mother got a baby t-shirt that had the Guns’n'Roses logo with the words, “Sweet Child O’ Mine” printed across it. It’s good to know that the next generation will be a good, hearty stock.
